If you have a beautiful aquarium shining with crystal clear water, and the fish in it are fat and cheerful, then you are the owner of a miracle and you don’t need to read this text anymore. But miracles, as it is known, happen rarely, including truly live aquariums. Why? Because it is pleasant and interesting to feed the fish, the healthy fish are insatiable, they chase after every little bit, and you always want to give them something more and more. This is usually done, and very soon the water in the aquarium becomes cloudy, and the fish begin to feel sad and slowly breathe. Biological equilibrium in an aquarium with uncontrolled feeding of fish quickly turns out to be hopelessly disturbed.
In fact, feeding the fish is easy, you just need to know how to do it and how much to feed.
There are simple feeding rules that you need to follow and “get a hand” a little. because understanding comes with experience. But first, a few words about what to feed.
Live natural food, such as bloodworms, tubule, corelet, daphnia, cyclops are very loved by fish. They are easily digested and rich in vitamins. The fishes, feeding on them, are growing rapidly, and from daphnia and cyclops they are also brightly colored. But the trouble is, this prosperity may not last very long. Together with live food, the causative agents of fish diseases will sooner or later end up in the aquarium. After all, these feeds are caught in natural waters, most of which have their own fish population, and in nature, rare fish are free from parasites.
Under the conditions of an aquarium, fish usually get sick very hard and, as a rule, die without qualified treatment. Therefore, unless you are a dock in the treatment of fish ailments, refrain from the use of live food. It is relatively safe to feed fish only with nauplii (young, just hatched from eggs of crustaceans) Artemia. But they are very small and suitable only for fry and small fish, and this troublesome thing is to create conditions at home for hatching crayfish from eggs.
The risk of infection will be greatly reduced if the live food purchased is immediately frozen. Freezing for several days will kill fish ectoparasites. You will not insure against bacterial infections in this way, but they rarely occur in safe tanks.
Quickly frozen bloodworm, if kept at a temperature of.12 ° C and below, retains its color, shape and, judging by the enthusiasm with which it is eaten, fish, taste. Many aquarists, including members of our forum, freeze bloodworms on their own.
What can be artificial feed for fish:
You can approach the solution of the feeding problem on the other hand. to feed the fish with artificial dry combined feed, finely chopped beef heart, squid fillet, scrambled eggs, special cakes, cooked in the microwave, cottage cheese or yogurt home-made and even canned green peas and semolina.
First, let’s say a few words about commercially available dry combined feed. Even now Some novice aquarists believe that dry food is nothing like dry daphnia or gammarus, which was used to feed aquarium fish in the nineteenth century. However, this is not the case. Modern dry food is a complex mixture of dozens of components. They are made by special almost secret technologies. In comparison with them, sachets with the dried crustaceans mentioned above look useless as an anachronism.
Photo 4. By itself, dried gammarus feed is not important, but as a chitin-containing additive in home-made feed for aquarium fish, it is very good.
Of the imported dry feeds, the most affordable feeds are from Tetra, Sera, JBL, AZOO. Their range is wide enough, so you can always find something suitable for your pets. There are, for example, feed for discus, catfish, goldfish, as well as feed of universal composition. All of them contain biologically active substances and vitamins necessary for fish, and are balanced in protein, fat and carbohydrate content. Formulation of feed is made taking into account the characteristics of digestion and specific needs of certain groups of fish. Nevertheless, and universal feed, which can be fed at once all the fish in the aquarium, give very good results.
Feed for aquarium fish can be flaky, granulated, and also combine the properties of both flakes and pellets. the so-called crisps. In my opinion, it is more correct to use granules of a suitable caliber, in this case the pollution of aquarium water with uneaten food remains and organic substances extracted from feed particles into the water is the smallest. In addition to imported fish feed, there are commercially cheaper, but not bad in quality domestic ones. For example, a whole series of feed for aquarium fish, fry and fry "Aqua Menu". All of them provide the full existence and growth of aquarium fish.
Using dry combination feeds, we must not forget that they cannot be stored forever, so the first thing to do when buying them is to check the expiration date. At home, after opening the package, the shelf life of such food is limited to at most 4 months, and it should not be allowed to damp or heat the food (for example, if you put the jar on a warm aquarium lid). Store food must be in a tightly closed container. And when buying, do not strive to buy a bigger jar. It is better to take the minimum packaging, the contents of which will dry out in a month or two. In this case, the loss of the nutritional value of the feed, which is inevitable during storage, will be minimal.
If dry food is so good, then why start with something else? They are good, but not perfect. It is easy to open the jar and fill the fish with food easily and at the same time with minimum hassle. But, as a rule, in the life of every aquarist there comes a period when he switches to more complex feeding patterns. Firstly, I want to achieve perfect results, and secondly, I always want variety, at least in food, for everyone. From here and
FIRST RULE FOR FEEDING AQUARIUM FISH: A varied diet is undoubtedly beneficial for both you and your fish!
Beef heart, rubbed with small chips on a grater (for this it needs to be slightly frozen), loved by many fish. Even small neon chicks will not refuse to try it (naturally with the appropriate chip caliber). The content of easily digestible protein is the champion of feed. Its use allows to significantly reduce the cost of the contents of such gluttons, such as disses and astronotuses. Moreover, perhaps, only with its help, they manage to really fatten them well. But we must bear in mind that the not eaten remnants of this feed are extremely good for the development of planarium worms, which are always in any aquarium. Normally, they do not cause harm, are nocturnal and therefore almost imperceptible. But with excessive feeding of fish by the heart, that is, when its remains are not eaten at the bottom of the aquarium, the number of these worms rapidly increases to incredible numbers. Their hordes even begin to crawl along the walls of the aquarium during the day and plan in the water column. Of course, the aquarium is not painted, in addition, planarians can attack and fish. From here and
THE SECOND RULE OF FEEDING AQUARIUM FISH: within 5-10 minutes after adding the feed to the aquarium, everything should be eaten!
THIRD RULE FOR FEEDING AQUARIUM FISH: the feed must be distributed in the aquarium in such a way that everything will go to both the strong and the weak, as well as to those who always stay at the bottom.
About what tricks one sometimes has to resort to in order to fulfill this rule is described here. But first, we will look at the movie clips, will allow us to better understand how and how much to feed the fish.
